Historic Revival
Where History Meets Modern Living
Project Overview
This 1920s Spanish-style home was getting a full renovation. The homeowners wanted to update the property while keeping the character and charm that made the home special.
Along with renovating the house, they added a detached garage and studio designed to match the home’s original architecture. Green Grass was brought in to create a landscape plan that tied everything together and improved how the property looked and functioned. Project timeline: 12–16 weeks.
Schedule a ConsultationThe Challenge
The homeowners wanted the property to feel updated without losing its history. The landscape needed to connect the renovated home, new garage studio, and outdoor living areas while staying true to the home’s original style. They also wanted better privacy, improved lighting, updated outdoor spaces, and a more welcoming entrance. With the homeowner, architect, builder, and Green Grass team all involved, every detail needed to work together.

The Plan
Green Grass created a complete landscape master plan for the entire property. The goal was simple: make the property easier to use while keeping the historic character of the home. The design included new gathering spaces, improved walkways, privacy screening, updated planting beds, landscape lighting, and a new driveway. Every feature was selected to complement the home’s architecture and help the property feel connected from front to back.

The Installation
The project included improvements throughout the entire property. A new circular asphalt driveway with clay paver accents created a more welcoming entrance. Patio renovations and a new path connected the home to the garage studio and garden areas. Additional improvements included:
- Raised stone vegetable garden beds
- Custom cedar screening
- Hornbeam privacy plantings
- Brick entry columns with address marker
- Flowering urns
- Enhanced landscape lighting
- Masonry brick and stone steps
- Planting bed improvements throughout the property

The Result
The finished landscape feels like it belongs with the home. The new features improve privacy, lighting, access, and everyday enjoyment while respecting the property’s historic character. The garage studio, outdoor spaces, and renovated home now feel connected through one thoughtful landscape plan. What started as a major renovation became a complete property transformation that honors the home’s past while making it easier to enjoy today.
